Basic Beauty #71 - Verde California Wave

Ed eccoci con la quarta puntata di Italians do it better!
Ma prima di passare allo smalto del giorno, vorrei scusarmi con tutte voi se, negli ultimi giorni, sto facendo fatica a rispondere a mails, messaggi Facebook e, soprattutto, commenti sul blog: sono incredibilmente impegnata e riesco a malapena a ricavare il tempo necessario a scrivere i posts. Vogliate scusarmi!
Ma mettiamo la nostra carne al fuoco: Basic Beauty, marchio del gruppo Limoni, si trova negli omonimi negozi al prezzo di 3.99€ a smalto. Potete anche acquistarli presso alcuni punti vendita La Gardenia laddove, per motivi a me ignoti, il prezzo lievita a 4.99€. Mistero!
Del #71 Verde California Wave non c'è nulla che io non abbia adorato. L'unico difetto che ha, se poi si può definire tale, è che non è assolutamente verde come invece recita il suo nome.
E' uno spettacolare foil azzurro-argento che si stende che è una meraviglia (pennello e formula assolutamente fantastiche!).
E' opaco in due mani sottili e ha tempi di asciugatura rapidissimi. Anche la durata è assolutamente soddisfacente.
L'ho davvero adorato e forse è superfluo dire che lo straconsiglio. Date un'occhiata anche alle altre tonalità proposte nella linea Basic Beauty perché ci sono dei colori davvero interessanti. Evviva!!!

Here I am with the fourth part of the mini-project Italians do it better!
But, first of all, I want to apologize: in the last few days I've been incredibly busy and it's very difficult, for me, to answer to emails, private messages on Facebook, tweets or comments on my blog. I am really sorry for this lack of answers, hope you'll forgive me.
Back to us, today I want to show you a polish by a brand called Basic Beauty, which is property of the group Limoni (Limoni is a chain of cosmetic stores, like Douglas). These polishes are sold for 3.99€ each. They also can be found in some Gardenia's boutiques (Gardenia is another chain of stores) but price is higher (4.99€ per polish). I really can't understand why. 
#71 Verde California Wave is really a perfect polish, even if I don't know why it's called that way ("verde" means green, and I think it's clear that this polish is NOT green at all!!!).
Anyway: it is a light blue-silver with a foil finish. Application is very easy, thanks to its very good brush and its fantastic formula. It's opaque in two thin coats and drying time is super fast. Also longevity is high.
I'm really in love with this polish and I think I will buy more shades by this brand in the future (the range of colours is extremely interesting).

Kiko #301 - Viola Nero Microglitter

III puntata di Italians do it better! ed eccomi con uno smalto Kiko, probabilmente il brand italiano più conosciuto all'estero (in termini smaltiferi) nonché ricercato per gli swaps.
Vi anticipo sin da subito che, per rendere al meglio il colore di questo smalto, ho dovuto usare delle impostazioni particolari che conferiscono un aspetto alquanto strano alla mia epidermide.
In ogni caso: il Viola Nero Microglitter è un viola molto scuro con shimmer blu intenso e sparuti shimmer rossi poco visibili. Per poterveli mostrare ho "dovuto" inserire una foto fatta con luce artificiale.
Molto pigmentato (quasi un one coater), è lucidissimo anche senza top coat ed asciuga in fretta. Molto buona anche la durata.
Insomma, nella mia opinione, uno degli smalti più riusciti di Kiko!

Hi ladies!
Today I show you a polish by Kiko, which is probably the most known italian brand for nail polishes (and it is also very requested for swaps).
Unfortunately this shade was hard to capture for my camera (which is officially dead, I've just bought a new one), so my skin will look weird in my pics. But I can assure that, at least, the colour of the polish is accurate.
Anyway: 301 Viola Nero Microglitter (Microglitter Black Purple) is a very dark purple with blue shimmer (and rare red shimmers) which is not so visible. I had to take pics with artificial light to show this slight shimmer effect.
It has an amazing pigmentation and it is glossy even without a top coat. It dries very fast and has a very good longevity, too.
In my opinion, this is one of the best polishes that Kiko has ever made!

Buonasera a tutte!
Purtroppo questo w-e è stato particolarmente impegnativo e devo rimandare a domani la stesura della III puntata di Italians do it better!, ma volevo comunque lasciarvi con una piccola novità.
Da oggi infatti trovate una nuova pagina, intitolata My Nailfile, contenente un foglio Excel con tutta la mia collezione di smalti! Naturalmente va implementato, un po' alla volta inserirò anche i link degli smalti già swatchati.
Spero che vi sia utile qualora vogliate farmi delle richieste circa la recensione di uno smalto in particolare in mio possesso.
Se credete che vada cambiato in qualche maniera (sia dal punto di vista grafico che dal punto di vista del contenuto dei campi), sentitevi libere di scrivermelo nei commenti od in una e-mail.

Layla Hologram Effect in Mercury Twilight

Secondo appuntamento col nostro Italians do it better!
Cosa c'è di meglio di uno smalto olografico? Niente, almeno nella mia opinione. Che piacciano indossati o meno, non si può negare che siano davvero affascinanti e che difficilmente passino inosservati.
Nel mio stash ho davvero tanti holo, ed in parte ve li ho già mostrati: spazio da quelli con effetto holo scattered a quelli con effetto holo linear, dai brands americani (China Glaze e Color Club) a quelli inglesi (A England) ed infine a quelli coreani (Nfu Oh).
Quando la Layla ha annunciato l'uscita di otto smalti olografici ho reagito in modo bipolare: da un lato ho iniziato a fare il countdown, dall'altro mi son detta che avevo tutti i colori possibili e che dunque avrei fatto meglio a lasciar perdere.
In realtà nel mio stash mancavano due tonalità: l'argento e il rosso. Potevo dunque esimermi dall'acquisto dell'argento, dal momento che veniva proposto nella gamma colori? No, altrimenti non sarei qui a scriverne.
Mercury Twilight è un argento con un effetto holo linear davvero pazzesco. Sinceramente: lascio che siano le foto a parlare. Inoltre è sheer quanto basta per poterlo impiegare in mille modi diversi per fare dei layering spaziali - nelle foto invece vedete il risultato di due passate abbondanti.
Riguardo all'applicazione: la Layla ha immesso sul mercato una speciale lima lucidante da passare sull'unghia prima di stendere lo smalto. Onestamente, io non l'ho presa. A dirla tutta, non ho neppure passato la lima a 6 fasi (che secondo me può benissimo essere usata per ottenere comunque un'unghia levigata) prima del pittaggio: mi sono limitata ad usare l'Nfu Oh Aqua Base su una mano e l'Orly Bonder sull'altra come controprova e l'applicazione è stata comunque agevole. E' altresì evidente che l'effetto holo non ne ha assolutamente risentito. Insomma, sono stata ben felice di essermi risparmiata quei 2.90€.
Sulla durata: analogamente agli holo Nfu Oh, Mercury Twilight ha la medesima durata di una cheesecake nel mio frigo (ehmbé? Non avete anche voi un moroso che è un frantoio?!?). La differenza risiede però nel fatto che gli Nfu Oh si sfogliano, il Mercury Twilight invece si consuma pesantemente sulle punte.
Tuttavia è possibile giocarsi la carta top coat (non ad asciugatura rapida!) o smalto trasparente: in tal modo la durata viene sensibilmente allungata e l'effetto arcobaleno non sarà assolutamente rovinato. Personalmente l'ho testato col Better than Gel Nails di Essence, mentre Simona di Light Your Nails può garantire per lo smalto trasparente della NYC.
Chevvelodicoafffà, adoro alla follia questo smalto e credo che lo userò fino allo sfinimento. E voi, ne siete rimaste affascinate o siete immuni?

Well, as you probably know, I love, love, love and LOVE holo polishes. Who doesn't?!?
I have a lot of holo polishes in my stash, and I've already posted a lot of swatches and review of them. Linear or scattered holo effect, american, english or korean brands: I don't care. I adore all of them!
When the italian brand Layla announced the release of eight holo shades, I started the countdown. 
I didn't have any reds or silvers with holo finish in my stash, so I picked Mercury Twilight, the silver one of the collection.
Mercury Twilight has really a  CRAZY linear holo effect. Seriously. You can see how gorgeous it is in my pics. After only one coat it is quite sheer, so it is great also for layerings. But in my photos you can see the result after two generous coats.
Application: Layla released also a special buffer which is, in theory, necessary for a good application and to obtain a dramatic rainbow effect. Honestly: I didn't buy it. And I don't think it is necessary. If you want to smooth the surface of your nails before application you can simply use a six phase buffer. 
Personally, I simply applied Nfu Oh Aqua Base on my left hand and Orly Bonder on my right hand. In both cases, application was fast and easy.
Longevity: similarly to Nfu Oh polishes, Mercury Twilight has the same longevity of a cheesecake in my refrigerator (infact the nickname of my partner is "The Grinder"). After only one day I noticed a massive tip wear. But you have the chance to enhance this poor longevity by using a top coat (not fast drying) or a clear nail polish: I used Essence Better than Gel Nails and my polished friend Simona used a clear polish by NYC. This won't ruin the final effect and will help to protect your manicure for more days. 
I'm deeply in love with this nail polish but I'd like to know what do you think about it: do you think that Layla did a good job? Can we seriously say that, in this case, Italians have done it better?

Deborah Milano Shine Tech #71

Ed ecco il primo post del mini-progetto Italians do it better!
Come annunciato, inizio con uno dei cinque smalti di Deborah Milano, di recente uscita, con effetto "scarabeo".
Il #71 è un verde smeraldo molto intenso che vira al turchese, con un discreto effetto duochrome. Come sapete non sono una fan sfegatata del pennello degli Shine Tech di Deborah, dal momento che ho le unghie strette, ma l'applicazione è comunque agevole.
Potrebbe tranquillamente essere un one coater se si stendesse una sola passata abbastanza carica, ma io vi consiglio di farne due molto sottili - nel caso di utilizzo con la cazzuola tendono a vedersi i simpatici segni del pennello.
La longevità è buona e i tempi di asciugatura davvero veloci anche senza top coat ad asciugatura rapida.
Mi è piaciuto davvero moltissimo e lo consiglio caldamente, soprattutto se, come me, doveste imbattervi in un'offerta - l'ho pagato solo €4.95, un vero affare!!!

Here I am with the first post of my mini-project called "Italians do it better"!
As promised, the first nail polish is by Deborah Milano, which has recently launched five duocrome shades.
Deborah Shine Tech #71 is an intense emerald green with a nice (even if not too strong) duochrome effect which enriches the polish with turquoise reflects.
Tou probably know that I am not the biggest fan of Deborah's brush (too wide for my narrow nails) but application is simple and easy.
If you apply a generous coat, you will obtain the perfect opacity; but I suggest to apply two thin coats to avoid brush strokes.
Drying time is really fast and longevity is good, too.
I really like this polish in terms of performance and shade and I really recommend it.

Italians do it better!

... E se lo dice una come Madonna, non possiamo che crederci!!!
Ma se dal campo amoroso ci spostiamo a quello di mia competenza, ovvero gli smalti, le cose cambiano un bel po'. I brands italiani non sono mai stati particolarmente innovativi, proponevano più che altro colori noiosi (i famosi rosini mosci ed i rossi menopausa) e tenevano anche prezzi piuttosto alti.
La supremazia dei salon brands americani, come China Glaze, Orly o Zoya, non è in discussione, almeno per come la vedo io, ma è innegabile che i marchi di casa nostra si stiano un po' svegliando ed abbiano iniziato a sfornare colori e finish più interessanti e meno conservativi.
In alcuni casi i prezzi sono sempre alti, di nuovo secondo la mia opinione, ma vabbé.
Ho dunque pensato di proporre un periodo di swatches e posts tutto italiano, presentandovi alcune novità, come uno degli smalti effetto scarabeo di Deborah Milano e un olografico di Layla, ed altri colori di certo non innovativi ma che mi son piaciuti parecchio.

Many years ago Madonna wore a t-shirt with this writing: Italians do it better.
Unfortunately this is not true when it comes to nail polishes: italian brands used to have a little (and sad!) range of shades, with lots of dull pinks and "menopause reds" and also high prices!
Happily, things have recently changed: even if the supremacy of US salon brands is undisputed, at least in my opinion, we are seeing new and unusual colors and finishes in the last period (but prices are always too high in some cases).
Anyway I'd like to propose a series of posts with "italian only" brands. I will include a couple of news in the italian market, like a holo polish by Layla and a duochrome polish by Deborah Milano, but also other shades that I really like.
This will be my schedule:

Nail art time: let it snow!

Ok, sono conscia del fatto che la nail art di oggi è un po' fuori stagione: in genere i fiocchi di neve si riservano al periodo natalizio. Ma dal momento che la neve ha tardato ad arrivare qui in Italia, e si è vista solo un paio di settimane fa, credo di essere comunque in topic!
Nail art semplice semplice, ecco cosa ho usato per realizzarla.

• Eyeko Rain (base)
• Misa Dance Fever (glitter argento)
• Models Own Bluebelle (glitter blu elettrico)
• Adesivi Essence Crystallized
• Spugna
• Pennello 2

Ok, I know that nail arts with snoflakes are usually published during the Xmas period. But here in North Italy the first snow has fallen only three weeks ago, so here it is my first "let it snow" nail art!
It's really super easy, and here it is the list of the products that I used:

• Eyeko Rain (base colour)
• Misa Dance Fever (silver glitters)
• Models Own Bluebelle (electric blue glitters)
• Essence Crystallized stickers
• Little piece of sponge
• Brush #2

Dopo aver steso Eyeko Rain ed aver atteso che asciugasse, ho mescolato Dance Fever e Bluebelle con un rapporto di 2:1 (due gocce del Misa e una del Models Own). Entrambi hanno una base trasparente con glitters argentati (il primo) e blu elettrico (il secondo).
Con una spugnetta ho poi applicato il miscuglio su parte dell'unghia, concentrando la maggior parte di prodotto sulla parte superiore.
Ho poi applicato due stickers della Essence sull'anulare e steso intorno agli stessi i glitters blu-argento, stavolta con un pennello 2.
Top coat et voilà, nail art terminata!

First of all I applied the base colour, Eyeko Rain. Then I mixed Dance Fever and Bluebelle in a ratio of 2 to 1 (two drops of Dance Fever and one drop of Bluebelle). Both polishes have a clear base with silver (Misa) and electric blue (Models Own).
I applied this mix on the nails with a sponge. As you can see I put more product on the upper part of my nails.
Only on the ring finger I applied two Essence stickers and then the glitters around them, using a brush #2. Top coat et voilà, super easy but nice nail art finished!
