The Rainbow Ladies #8: RAINBOW! [Water Marble]

E se fosse proprio il processo di pittaggio unghie a farci strippare? Per questo post finale è andata esattamente così.
In un impeto di "modestia portami via", vi confesso che a me le water marbles sono sempre uscite con facilità e naturalezza. Sì, magari dovevo provare tre-quattro smalti prima di trovare quello adatto, ma niente di drammatico.
Con questa water marble ho invece pagato pegno, una sorta di contrappasso (godete molto, eh?).
Diciamo che il problema è stato trovare degli smalti arancio e gialli che non solo si aprissero in acqua, ma che andassero anche d'accordo tra loro e che rimanessero ben distinti, non mescolandosi.
C'è voluta una vita e, non so, quei settordicimila tentativi e quei diciassei rosari di improperi.
Per fortuna, il risultato finale mi ha soddisfatta a tal punto da ripagare ogni mia pena.
Quindi ecco a voi la mia water marble arcobalenosa!
Per realizzarla ho usato:
- Base: Orly Dayglow (bianco);
- Indice: Orly Ignite (rosso) + Basic Beauty #49 (arancio);
- Medio: Orly Melt Your Popsicle (arancio) + H&M Going Bananas (giallo) + Kiko #296 (verde);
- Anulare: Kiko #296 (verde) + Kiko #267 (azzurro) + OPI Russian Navy (indaco);
- Mignolo: OPI Russian Navy (indaco) + Illamasqua Jo'mina (viola).
Per finire, ho passato una mano leggera di China Glaze Wireless Holographic Top Coat, tanto per dare quel lieve "sbrilluccichio" visibile solo al sole.
In linea generale, posso dirvi che Orly Ignite, i due Kiko, l'OPI Russian Navy e l'Illamasqua Jo'mina funzionano divinamente. Gli altri, pur funzionando, mi hanno dato qualche difficoltà. In ogni caso, ribadisco che a volte non è lo smalto X in sé a non funzionare, ma la sua combo con un altro smalto Y a rendervi impossibile il lavoro.
Al di là di queste note tecniche, spero che la mia nail art vi sia piaciuta (in caso contrario potrei uccidervi), vi ringrazio per averci seguito anche in quest'avventura e vi dò appuntamento a presto (dico solo che sabato sarò al Cosmoprof!).

And it really works for me. Painting my nails is therapeutic, it relaxes me a lot. But it can also happen that the creation of a nail art is the principal cause of stress.
And that's what happen with this water marble, which is also my final post for Rainbow Thursdays.
I must admit that creating a water marble has always been easy for me. Of course, sometimes I had to try three or four nail polishes before finding the one which works, but nothing tragic.
Unfortunately, I had many difficulties with this water marble.
Let's say that I almost became mad before finding a yellow and an orange polish which worked and which got on well together.
Anyway, the final result is sooo nice (IMO, of course) and I'm really happy with it!
So, here is the list of the products I used:
- Base: Orly Dayglow (white);
- Index: Orly Ignite (red) + Basic Beauty #49 (orange);
- Middle: Orly Melt Your Popsicle (orange) + H&M Going Bananas (yellow) + Kiko #296 (green);
- Ring: Kiko #296 (green) + Kiko #267 (blue) + OPI Russian Navy (indigo);
- Pimkie: OPI Russian Navy (indigo) + Illamasqua Jo'mina (purple). As a final touch, I applied one light coat of China Glaze Wireless Holographic Top Coat, just to give to my water marble that bright touch (which is visible only in direct sunlight).
As a general note, I can say that Orly Ignite, the two Kikos, OPI Russian Navy and Illamasqua Jo'mina works perfectly for this technique. I had some issues with the other nail polishes.
Anyway, I'd like to say again that sometimes the polish itself works, but it doesn't work anymore if used in combo with another polish. I think it's a matter of different formulations.

The Rainbow Ladies #7: VIOLET [Kiko #408 Chemical Purple]

La smaltara pazza si connota anche per la sua maniacale attenzione per le previsioni del tempo: si sa che alcuni finish danno il meglio col sole, quindi bisogna starci all'occhio.
L'inequivocabile nuvoletta (di Fantozzi) con le goccioline che IlMeteo mi mostrava per questi giorni mi ha dunque impedito di mettere lo smalto che avrei voluto: l'intenzione era quella di chiudere col botto col Lady of the Lake di A England, ed invece no. Ironia della sorte: come vedrete nelle foto, oggi il sole è uscito, contrariamente a tutte le previsioni. Grrrrrrrrr.
Comunque, ecco a voi il mio "panchinaro": il Kiko #408 Chemical Purple. Ho dovuto fare gli straordinari per trovare le parole per descriverlo, e non sono nemmeno sicura di riuscirvi al meglio: si tratta di un viola molto scuro con un finish a cavallo tra lo shimmer multicolor e il foil (mi dispiace, ma i glitter che ci vede Kiko per me sono non pervenuti).
Due passate per la coprenza perfetta e formulazione discutibile: è molto denso e non agevole da applicare, ci sono momenti in cui sembra non riesca ad "attecchire" sull'unghia.
In compenso, l'asciugatura è rapida e la durata buona.
L'arcobaleno è finito, ma le Rainbow Ladies hanno ancora in serbo un post finale col botto per voi!
Per cui... Rimanete sintonizzate, non vi deluderemo!


A polishaholic has to pay attention to the weather forecasts: we all know that sun is essential to photograph some finishes like linear, scattered or glitter holos.
I wanted to show you A England Lady of the Lake for this final post, but when I watched at my fav website for weather forecasts... Rain, rain and rain for many days. 
Of course, I decided to pick another shade for this post. And, of course, today there was a weak but shining sun. Sgrunt.
Anyway: my replacement polish for violet is Kiko #408 Chemical Purple, which belongs to Dashing Holidays Limited Edition for Christmas 2012.
It's quite hard to describe this shade: it's a very dark purple with an odd finish. I'm sure it isn't a glitter, even if Kiko describes it so. It's a sort of mix between a foil and a shimmer. 
Unfortunately its formula is not that good: it's very thick and not easy to apply. Luckily, it has a good pigmentation (two coats in my pics), it dries fast and has a good longevity too.
This was the last color of the rainbow, but the Rainbow Ladies still have one more post for you!

The Rainbow Ladies #6: INDIGO [Lancôme Indigo Paris]

L'indaco è uno di quei colori su cui dovrebbe vertere almeno una puntata di Voyager. È finzione? È realtà? È un'opinione? È un dato di fatto? I Maya ne parlavano nel loro calendario? I teschi di cristallo si sono mai pronunciati a tal proposito? San Malachia gli ha dedicato uno dei motti della sua profezia? O almeno è stato chiesto a Samara di The Ring?
Pensavo di fare la figa di Parigi, googlarmi "indaco codice RAL" ed attenermi a quanto illustrato da codesta classificazione signora e padrona. Ed invece no: l'indaco non ha un codice RAL. E questa è già una prova a sostegno della sua inesistenza.
Quando sono andata a vedermi i codici CSS o per lo meno un Pantone, la mia confusione è aumentata: mi sono usciti colori svariati, dal blu al viola scuro, passando per blu e viola elettrico.
EH? Pronta a raschiare il fondo del barile pur di uscire da queste impasse a far venire fuori la realtà a tutti i costi su questo colore, ho tirato fuori dal cilindro il barbatrucco: ho arraffato il Lancôme Indigo Paris, non perché il colore mi convincesse, ma perché almeno l'indaco ce l'ha nel nome. Semplice, lineare, incontestabile. Tié, indaco. Ciapa su.
[comunque, diciamocelo: io adoro lamentarmi; è il mio sport preferito dopo gnamming e divaning, quindi un po' questo post lo aspettavo con ansia per piagnucolare e tediarvi]
Comunque: Indigo Paris fa parte di una collezione limitata di Lancôme un po' datata (Declaring Indigo del 2009) ed è uno spettacolare ed intenso blu scuro con sottilissimo shimmer di un blu più chiaro ed argento. La formula è densa, ma la prima passata scorre in modo piacevolissimo. Semmai è la seconda a causare un po' di difficoltà e qualche agglomerato di smalto qua e là (che comunque si livella dopo il top coat). Inoltre il suo pennellino non mi fa impazzire, è davvero minuscolo. Due passate per la coprenza perfetta, tempi di asciugatura non molto rapidi e buona durata.
Come spesso mi accade(va) con gli high end brands, sono rimasta un po' delusa da questo smalto, visto il prezzo uno si aspetterebbe una performance impeccabile. Ragion per cui non compro uno smalto "griffato" da tempo immemore, almeno se prendo delle cantonate non ho lasciato un rene alla cassa. In compenso, il colore è davvero splendido (e mi ha salvato le chiappe, ahahah!).
Per oggi è tutto, non dimenticate di curiosare le entries delle altre Ranbow ladies e passate una buona serata!


Here in Italy we have a TV show which is called Voyager. This program is proposed as a show which aims at the popularization of science, but in the end it proposes conspiracy theories, funny and ridicolus analysis of supernatural events and so on. Well, I think that Voyager should dedicate an episode to the existence of indigo. Is is a real color? Does it have a univocal reference? Did Mayas talk about indigo in their calendar? And what about crystal skulls? Have they ever spoken about indigo? Or maybe Malachy dedicated to indigo one of his mottos?
IMHO, indigo is a very misterious color. At first I tried to google "indigo RAL code", but indigo doesn't have a RAL code. Is this the evidence of the nonexistence of indigo?
Then I googled "css for indigo" and "indigo pantone", but I saw that there's a lot of different options: sometimes it's shown as a very dark blue, sometimes as a very dark purple, but it could also be bright purple or blue. Wow.
At that point I didn't know what to do. So I chose the easiest option: I picked Lancôme Indigo Paris from my stash. I'm not sure that this polish is really indigo, but at least it has indigo in its name.
Indigo Paris (from Declaring Indigo Collection for Fall 2009) is a beautiful dark blue with a very subtle shimmer. Formula is a bit thick and not so easy to apply: application of the first coat of product is simple and easy. During the application of the second coat it is quite difficult to obtain an even surface. A fast drying top coat will help to obtain a smooth result on the nails. Moreover, its brush is really too small!
As I wrote here above, this polish is opaque in two coats, it doesn't dry that fast but has a good longevity.
I was a bit disappointed by this polish because its quality is a bit poor for the price it had. Anyway, it's a gorgeous color and I'm happy to show it to you.

The Rainbow Ladies #5: BLUE [Zoya Zuza]

Buonasera ragazze!
Oggi è il turno del blu nel nostro arcobaleno smaltoso. Ed io mi gioco un carico di briscola: lo Zoya Zuza della Surf Collection dell'estate scorsa.
Questo smalto è perfezione pura. Mentre lo stendevo non la finivo più di fare "Oooooh aaaaaah uuuuuh!".
Innanzitutto, il colore è pazzesco: uno splendido aquamarina dal finish foil. Un colore pieno, intenso, vibrante. Se pensate che sia bello in foto, vi dico solo che dal vivo è persino meglio.
Poi, vogliamo parlare della sua qualità? Ineccepibile. La formula è semplicemente eccezionale, si stende praticamente da solo, con una facilità quasi disarmante. Con una passata un po' carica è già coprente.
Si asciuga in un lampo e dura una vita sulle unghie.
Francamente, non potrei chiedere di più ad uno smalto. Ringrazio la mia amica Sarah per avermelo procurato (ciao bbbbella!!!!!!!), ringrazio anche tutte voi per la visita e vi ricordo che qui sotto c'è un Inlinkz con tante belle proposte delle mie compagne di viaggio!

This is the fifth appointment of our Rainbow Thursdays and I'd like to show you a very, very special polish: Zoya Zuza from Surf Collection for Summer 2012.
This polish is pure perfection. Seriously: it's just too good to be true!
Firstly: the colour is a-m-a-z-i-n-g. It's a bright and intense aqua with a foil finish. It's stunning in the pictures, but trust me: it's even better in real life.
Secondly: the quality is really high. Formula is simply exceptional, application is super easy and it's almost opaque with just one coat.
Moreover, it dries really fast and has an impressive longevity too.
Honestly, I couldn't expect more from a nail polish. I want to thank my good friend Sarah for buying it for me (hi honey!!!!). Obviously, I'd like to thank you for visiting and commenting and don't forget that there are a lot of amazing twinsie posts here above.

The Rainbow Ladies #4: GREEN [Illamasqua Rampage & Sinful Colors Call You Later]

Ed eccoci nuovamente al nostro quarto appuntamento con i giovedì arcobalenosi!
Nell'ottica del "tu is megl che uan" (un Accorsi vecchia maniera docet), oggi mi gioco due bellissimi smalti verdi, assai diversi tra loro, ma che stanno molto bene combinati insieme in una gradient.
L'Illamasqua Rampage, il colore di base, è uno spettacolare verde foresta dal finish jelly, dunque molto luminoso già senza top coat. Coprenza perfetta in due mani sottili, asciuga in fretta e ha davvero una formula ineccepibile, scorre sull'unghia che è un piacere
Il Sinful Colors Call You Later è, invece, un chiassoso glitter dalla base trasparente con particelle glitterose di diverse dimensioni e forme, nonché diversi colori, tutti sulle tonalità del verde (verde chiaro-dorato e verde erba). Credo che stia davvero bene su un verde scuro come il Rampage, sono davvero soddisfatta di questa gradient!
Consigli per gli acquisti: la Sinful Colors è ormai distribuita da qualche mese dalla Revlon, dunque è assai più reperibile di prima (si trovava qualcosa in Coin) ed anche il prezzo è stato abbassato da 4.99€ a 3.70€ (prezzo di listino, ma io li ho trovati scontati anche a 2.98€).
Spero che questa gradient vi sia piaciuta e non dimenticate di buttare un occhio alle creazioni ed alle scelte delle altre signorinelle!

and welcome back to our Rainbow Thusday! For this fourth post I picked two polishes which are very different in terms of finish, but which look very nice together.
Illamasqua Rampage, the base color, is a dark forest green with a jelly finish, so you can easily imagine that it dries super glossy even without a top coat. Two coats in my pics, it dries fast and has an amazing formula.
Sinful Colors Call You Later, the glitter one, has a clear base and differently sized and shaped glitter particles in light golden green and grass green. I think it looks great on a dark green such as Rampage, I'm really happy with this gradient manicure!
I'm also happy that Sinful Colors can be finally easily found also here in Italy. Until a few months ago, it was available only in a few store and was more expensive: 4.99€ for each polish, a lot of money considering the original price (I think Sinful polishes retail for a couple of dollars or even less in the US). Now they are available in a lot of stores and they retail for 3.70€, but can be easily found for a little less (I bought four of them three months ago and I paid 2.98€ each).

The Rainbow Ladies #3: YELLOW [H&M Going Bananas]

Questo post avrebbe dovuto intitolarsi "Lo strano caso dell'H&M Going Bananas". E dire che avevo aspettative così elevate...
Innanzitutto, adoro il suo nome: evoca nella mia mente malata e perversa un numero imprecisato di banane che rimbalzano a destra e a manca. Insomma, banane bananeggianti (???).
Sìsì, lo so che "going bananas" è un'espressione idiomatica che vuol dire "incazzarsi", ma per me è così. Chevvedevodì. Io ve l'ho sempre scritto che non sto tanto a posto con la testa.
Poi, il colore: un bel giallo pastello pieno di microshimmerini multicolor, evidenti sia in boccetta che durante l'applicazione... Meraviglia. Peccato che, a smalto asciutto, risulti un mero giallo creme. Per vedere lo shimmerino dovete essere sotto la luce artificiale e appiccicare il naso alle unghie.
L'applicazione è ottima e i tempi di asciugatura super rapidi, e nulla da eccepire neppure sulla coprenza: due mani e via.
Il problema sta altrove. Dopo aver messo il top coat, ho notato che lo smalto si è come accartocciato e sollevato ai bordi, rendendoli completamente irregolari, come se fosse stato steso in preda ad una crisi di delirium tremens. Guardate che schifezza soprattutto sul medio. Invece, fidatevi: l'ho steso in maniera eccelsa, super precisa. L'accoppiata base-top coat è la mia solita da mesi (Orly Tough Cookie e Essence Better Than Gel Nails) e non mi ha mai dato problemi, anzi, è una delle migliori mai provate.
Giorno 3: lo smalto a iniziato a creparsi e saltare in piccoli punti.
Ragazze, non ci siamo affatto! Gli darò sicuramente una seconda possibilità per vedere se semplicemente non va d'accordo con la mia base o il top coat, ma per ora è NO. Vorrei sapere da chi lo ha se ha avuto problemi simili, quindi aspetto con ansia un vostro commento a riguardo!
Sono delusissima, avrei voluto farci di tutto con questo colore come base: gradient, applicazione di glitter a cascata, stamping, nail art... E invece, buh.
A presto con smalti che invece non mi han fatto mettere su il broncio, vi abbraccio e vi ricordo che qui sotto ci sono un sacco di post fighi da leggere!

Today I'm going to show you a weird nail polish, H&M Going Bananas. I had very high expectations for this baby, but I was extremely disappointed by it.
First-of-all: its name is sooo funny! I don't know why, but it makes me think at a lot of bananas which dance and hop all around... I know, "going bananas" means "to be extremely angry", but I can't get out of my head the image of dancing bananas when I read this idiomatic expression.
(I wrote since my first post that I'm a crazy lady, you were warned!)
About the color: in the bottle it looks like a pastel yellow with lots of multicolor micro shimmer. This shimmer is also visible during application, but it completely disappears once the polish has dried. It is barely visible under artificial light.
Application is good and drying time is really fast; nothing to complain about coverage too, two coats and you're ready to go.
The issue is: after applying my usual top coat, I noticed that there was a sort of shrinkage at the base of my nails. Can you see it? Expecially on the middle finger... What a disaster!
It seems that the polish has been badly applied, but it wasn't: the borders near my cuticles were neat and nice before the application of top coat. I've been using the same base coat (Orly Tough Cookie) and the same top coat (Essence Better Than Gel Nails) since months, and I've never had this kind of problem. On the contrary, this combo is just perfect.
Moreover, on day 3 I noticed some cracks and chipping on the polish.
Ok: Houston, we have a problem. Of course I will try to use again this polish, changing base and top coat, but for the moment I'm extremely disappointed.
I wanted to use Going Bananas for gradients, funny application of glitters, stamping but... I don't think I will use it again soon.
Anyway: if you have this nail polish, please tell me your experience in the comments. I will appreciate a lot any suggestion!

The Rainbow Ladies #2: ORANGE [Basic Beauty #49]

Una quantità spropositata di smalti negli Helmer e rendersi conto che di arancio puri ne hai pochi, e quasi esclusivamente neon. Che con mezzo metro di neve fuori casa e un freddo porco non sono proprio invitanti.
Alla fine è spuntato lui, il Basic Beauty #49, che cade doppiamente a fagiolo perché attualmente c'è un'offerta su questo brand, 3 smalti per 4.99€ nelle profumerie Limoni. Andate e peccate anche per me, signore mie, ché io sono in no buy policy.
Il BB #49 è un bell'arancio vivo, ma non neon, dal fantastico shimmer tono su tono e fuchsia. Due mani abbondanti per la coprenza delle foto, applicazione e formula perfette.
I tempi di asciugatura non sono proprio rapidi, per cui consiglio un fast drying top coat.
A me è piaciuto tantissimo, spero che sia lo stesso per voi, e come sempre: date un'occhiata a cosa hanno combinato le altre pulzelle!


I have around 600 polishes in my stash, but only a few oranges. Moreover, the majority of them has a neon finish. I love neons, but here in North Italy it's super cold and there's snow everywhere, so I'm not in the right mood for a neon orange.
Luckily, I found this beauty in my untrieds box. Basic Beauty #49 is a super bright orange with orange and pink shimmers. 
Application was really pleasant, its formula it's perfect. Two generous coats in my pics.
It dries a bit slowly, so I'd suggest to use a fast drying top coat.
I really like this shade, even if I had almost forgotten I had it. As I wrote several times, Basic Beauty is a cheap Italian brand which can be found in Limoni and La Gardenia stores; their nail polishes are actually on sale (4.99€ for 3 nail polishes), so if you're in Italy for any reason or you have a nailpal in Italy, I'd suggest to take a look at their color range.

The Rainbow Ladies #1 - RED [Catrice Abloom]

Ed eccoci finalmente al primo vero appuntamento con i nostri Rainbow Thursdays.
Primo colore: rosso, che ho deciso di destinare al Catrice Abloom della collezione limited edition Coolibri.
Abloom è un luminosissimo rosso con un tocco deciso di rosa dal finish creme. Formula perfetta e pigmentazione media (due passate generose per ottenere la coprenza delle foto).
Asciuga molto rapidamente e ha una durata medio-buona.
Di questa LE m'è piaciuto molto il packaging, oltre che i colori brillanti degli smalti che la componevano, il disegno sul tappo è davvero carino.
Guardate cos'hanno combinato le altre signorinelle e buona serata a tutte!

Here we are with the very first post of our Rainbow Thursdays.
First color: red. I picked Catrice Abloom from Coolibri limited edition.
Abloom is a very nice red with a touch of pink and a creme finish. It dries super glossy, I love this!
Formula is great, pigmentation is quite good (two generous coats in my pics) and it dries fast.
Longevity is quite good too.
I really like Coolibri, the colors of the nail polishes were so bright and joyous, and the packaging was nice too (I like the print on the cap).

Salve ragazze!
Che io fossi dispiaciuta per la fine della ABC Challenge l'ho scritto in tutte le salse; almeno un paio di volte ho annunciato che avevamo altri progetti in cantiere, ed ecco qui il primo!

I wrote several times that I was really sorry about the end of ABC Challenge; I also wrote that we were working on other similar projects and... We are ready for the first!
