ABC Challenge: M for MAC Spirit of the Truth

Data la massiccia presenza di MAC nel mio beauty case (vabbé, diciamo la verità: nel mio vergognosamente sterminato stash che non entrerebbe manco in una Samsonite formato gigante), mi stupisce sempre vedere quanti pochi post ho dedicato a questo brand.
Però, insomma: il mio è principalmente un nail blog, di post dedicati al make up ce ne sono relativamente pochi, e non è che gli smalti siano il cavallo di battaglia della mia adorata MAC.
Ed in effetti, in tutta onestà, nessuno dei cinque smalti MAC in mio possesso è esente da difettucci di vario grado.
Ma oggi è il turno di Spirit of the Truth, ed è giusto dedicare la mia attenzione solo a lui.
Innanzitutto, appartiene alla LE Wonder Woman, uscita in Italia a maggio 2011 e che, insieme alla Venomous Villains, è stata una delle due collezioni per cui ho fatto follie.
Il packaging, all'epoca oggetto di molte critiche, a me è sembrato azzeccatissimo al tema, estremamente curato e, diciamolo: semplicemente strepitoso.
Spirit of the Truth è un blu navy scuro dal finish creme e dalla pigmentazione eccezionale: nelle foto vedete il risultato di una sola passata. Il pennello non è il massimo (ho il dubbio che me ne sia capitato uno tagliato male) ma la formula è perfetta, né troppo corposa né troppo liquida.
L'asciugatura è super rapida.
Ahimé, la durata non è nulla di eccezionale (tre giorni pieni, che per uno smalto che costava sui 14€ è un po' scarsina).
Tutto sommato, direi che questo smalto è promosso e il suo packaging sfizioso è un quid in più che farebbe felice parecchie fanatiche e collezioniste.
Questa era la mia scelta per la lettera M, non dimenticate di buttare un occhio alle entries delle altre pulzelle e buon inizio di settimana!

I have soooo many MAC items in my stash since I'm deeply in love with this brand but... I have rarely posted about its products.
That's not surprising, this is mainly a nail blog, I post occasionally about make up products. And let me say that nail polishes are not the strong suits of MAC.
I have five MAC nail polishes, and none of them is perfect.
But let's focus on Spirit of the Truth. First-of-all, it was released with Wonder Woman Limited Edition. For me, it was love at the first sight: the packaging is great, perfect for the theme of the collection. I have included a couple of pics of the box of this polish just to show you how much it was well-groomed in every detail.
Spirit of the Truth is a deep navy blue with a creme finish and an excellent pigmentation: only one coat in my photos. I don't like the brush so much, it's not well cut and it's a bit irregular, but the formula is simply perfect so application was quite easy.
Drying time is super fast.
The longevity is not the best ever (three days before tip wear), a bit disappointing for a nail polish which costed about 14€.
All in all, I promote this polish for its quality and for its gorgeous packaging too.

Nail art time: from Orly Meet Me Under the Mistletoe to Basic Beauty #103 [gradient]

Buonasera a tutte!
Oggi è il turno di una gradient un po' "nostalgica": infatti l'ho realizzata nei primissimi giorni di ottobre, quando ancora c'era il sole ed una temperatura ai limiti dell'estivo... Che meraviglia. Altro che il tempo freddo, uggioso e piovoso di queste ore.
Lo smalto di base, il verde chiaro, è il Basic Beauty #103, aka la mia B della ABC Challenge, mentre il verde più scuro, uno splendido verde smeraldo con tonnellate di mini flakies blu, dorati e verdi, è l'Orly Meet Me Under the Mistletoe.
(considerazione estemporanea: penso che questo post abbia il titolo più lungo del mondo)

Today I'm feeling a bit nostalgic, so my post is about a gradient I realized during the very first days of October. The weather was great, it was sunny, it was hot but not too hot... Perfect days.
So, for this gradient I used Basic Beauty #103, which I showed you during the ABC Challenge, and Orly Meet Me Under the Mistletoe, which is a gorgeous emerald green with tons of blue, gold and green mini flakies.
(uhm, I think that this post has the longest title ever)

ABC Challenge: L for Layla Misty Blush

Buongiorno a tutte e ben ritrovate!
Incredibile, siamo già alla lettera L e, dunque, quasi a metà dell'opera!
L sta per Layla, scelta quasi obbligata, non potevo non inserire uno dei brand italiani più significativi e conosciuti.
Layla sta portando in Italia molti trend che all'estero sono consolidati da tempo, ma assolutamente inediti all'interno dei patri confini, come i magnetici, i mirror o gli holo. Insomma, non posso che riservare loro un plauso. Li bacchetterei un po' per la questione prezzi, che sono un tantinello altini; in particolare ci son rimasta male nel vedere le promozioni effettuate negli Stati Uniti, con sconti che qua non vediamo manco col binocolo. Capisco che devono farsi conoscere e rendersi competitivi nel mercato più spietato del globo, smaltariamente parlando, però ogni tanto qualche sconticino alle affezionate compaesane lo vedrei bene.
Dopo questa parentesi agrodolce, poche parole sul Misty Blush: olografico di seconda generazione, un viola scuro col solito effetto arcobaleno linear e semplicemente sconvolgente ed evidente anche all'ombra. Una cosa che mi ha colpita particolarmente è il colore "caldo" dell'arcobaleno, probabilmente perché ci sono molte più particelle di rosso e tonalità simili rispetto agli altri holo linear che ho provato (e ne ho provati molti!).
Applicazione laboriosa senza base acquosa, semplicissima con.
Durata scarsina che può essere implementata con un TC non fast drying. Asciugatura quasi istantanea.

and welcome back to the ABC Challenge! I can't believe I'm writing the post about letter L, time runs fast when you're having fun!
L for Layla, the choice was quite obvious because it is one of the most important Italian brand.
I appreciate a lot the work Layla is doing because it's releasing many interesting collections. 
It gives us the chance to buy Italian polishes with finishes which are new for our market: holos, magnetics, mirrors... Layla was the first brand to launch these trends in Italy. Yes, the prices are quite high, and I have to confess that I was a bit disappointed when I read that sometimes they do important discounts for US market and not for us.
I know, I know, Layla has recently launched their products in US, which is (IMO) the most competitive market for nail polishes but... Well, I'd appreciate a sale or a promotion in Italy too!
After this bittersweet digression, let's talk about the polish of the day, Misty Blush from Hologram Effect Collection. This polish is stunning: a plum purple with an amazing, gorgeous, wonderful, dramatic linear holo effect, which is evident also in the shade. I think this polish has a linear holo effect which is slightly different from all the other holos I've tried: it's hard to explain, but it seems that the rainbow effect is warmer than usual, maybe because it has a tons of red and pink particles.
Application is a bit hard if you don't apply a rubberized base, but it's super easy with.
Drying time is lightning fast and longevity is not the best ever, but it improves if you apply a TC (not a fast drying one).

Puppies invasion (and an outsider)!

Come promesso, ecco il mio post... Bestiale. Blackie, il labrador nero dei miei suoceri, ha avuto 9 splendidi cuccioli: 4 maschi e 5 femmine, di cui due color cioccolato. A una settimana dalla nascita pesavano già 1 kg di pelo, panza e pucciosità!  

As promised, here it is my "bestial" post. Blackie, the black labrador of my parents-in-law, has now 9 beautiful kids: four baby boys and five little girls (two of them are chocolate). They are soooo cute!

Ma mi sembra giusto dare spazio anche a Mordicchia, che vi avevo mostrato qui da piccolina, che sta crescendo benissimo, guardate quant'è bella! Ed è anche un'aspirante smaltara, appena siamo arrivati ha puntato la busta con gli smalti che avevo portato e ci si è messa a giocare, piccinaaaaaaa!
A presto con la ABC Challenge, torno ad annegare in un tripudio di "uh oh ah" nel rivedere le foto!

Also: do you remember Mordicchia, the kitty I showed you in this post? She's 7 months old now, and she's just beautiful. She likes nail polishes so much, she started playing with the bottles I took with me for the week-end as soon as I arrived!

ABC Challenge: K for Essie Knockout Pout

Smalto del giorno: Knockout Pout di Essie. Sottotitolo: I'm a Barbie girl, in a Barbie world!
Sì, perché guardando questo smalto mi vengono solo due parole per definirlo: rosa Barbie.
Più tecnicamente, è un rosa molto vivace, praticamente neon. E difatti asciuga con un finish satin.
Parlando di formula ed applicazione, devo fare un passo indietro: nella mia esperienza, gli smalti Essie potrebbero essere divisi in due grandi gruppi. Un gruppo include tutti gli smalti perfetti o quasi, nell'altro quelli con una formula meeeeeeh.
Knockout Pout fa parte della seconda famiglia. La formula in sé non è malvagissima, la consistenza è perfetta. Però ottenere un risultato omogeneo è davvero complicato: pur stendendone uno strato uniforme tende ad asciugare a chiazze. Tant'è che parlando di coprenza in sé e per sé potrebbero bastarne due mani, ma ne ho dovuta stendere una terza proprio per nascondere questa discontinuità nel colore.
Il fatto che siano state necessarie tre mani mi ha sostanzialmente obbligata ad usare un top coat, altrimenti sarei diventata vecchia ad aspettare che asciugasse. Naturalmente ho provato il metodo sandwich (due mani di smalto, top coat e ulteriore mano di smalto) per conservare il finish satin e non attendere troppo per l'asciugatura, ma si ripresenta il problema delle chiazze di colore. O santa pazienza.
Insomma, se volete mantenere il finish originario dello smalto armatevi di tempo e pazienza nel rimanere ferme; magari usate delle goccine se credete che possa servire - personalmente non credo in questo genere di prodotto, avendo preso delle cantonate con le Essence e le Qtica. Se invece volete un finish glossy nessun problema, applicando un top coat (io ho evitato il TC ad asciugatura rapida proprio per valutare meglio questo parametro) i tempi di asciugatura sono piuttosto rapidi.
Per oggi è tutto, non dimenticatevi di guardare le entries delle altre signorine! Peraltro ne approfitto per avvertirle che tornerò ad infestare i loro blogs coi miei commenti, muahahahahahah!


Polish of the day: Knowout Pout by Essie. When I look at this color, I start singing: "I'm a Barbie girl, in a Barbie world!" (do you remember the song???). Because I think that the better description for this color is just Barbie pink.
Technically, it's a super bright, neon pink. In fact it dries satin.
Talking about formula and application, I have to say first that I could split my Essie polishes into two groups: in the first group, all the polishes that have a perfect formula. In the second group, all the polishes which have a meeeeh formula.
Knockout Pout is a meeeeeh! This polish is not too thick or too runny... The thickness is perfect. But it's almost impossible to obtain a smooth result. Even if you apply an even coat, you will notice spots in the color. The perfect coverage could be obtained with two coats, but I always apply three coats to hide these spots and imperfections. 
The final result without top coat is nice, I love polishes that dry satin, but after three coats you will need a lot of time for drying. I tried the sandwich method (two coats of polish, top coat and another coat of polish) but, once again, I couldn't obtain an even result and I noticed spots of color.
If you want to keep the satin look, just wait. And wait. Maybe you can use drying drops if this helps - I don't believe in this kind of product, I tried Essence and Qtica drying drops and they were useless.
If you want a glossy finish, simply apply a top coat - I used a Essence TC which is not fast drying and I waited only a few minutes.

Playing with CND Crimson Sparkle and stamping

Ciao ragazze!
Come vi ho detto giovedì, questo è un post programmato, io mi trovo sul cucuzzolo della collina dove non c'è speranza di consultare Internet. Quindi torno a scusarmi con voi se non potrò rispondere ai commenti prima di domenica sera.
Ricordate il CND Inkwell? Ricordate che vi avevo detto che vi avrei mostrato come trasformarlo con un CND Effect?
Ecco dunque a voi come Inkwell cambia drasticamente grazie ad una generosa mano di CND Crimson Sparkle, uno shimmer duochromatico (a seconda della luce appare rame o violetto). Sull'anulare ho invece deciso di fare un piccolo decoro con lo stamping (plate A15 di Shirley di Dashica Beauty) e poi ho steso una passata, stavolta molto sottile, sempre di Crimson Sparkle.
Io mi son divertita tanto a trasformare Inkwell, spero che il risultato sia piaciuto anche a voi!

As I wrote in my last post, I don't have access to Internet in these days so this is a programmed post. Again, I'm sorry if I can't reply to your comments before Sunday evening or Monday.
Well: do you remember CND Inkwell? I wrote that I love playing with CND Effects or any other sheer polish over dark and creme bases, and this is the result.
I applied a very generous coat of CND Crimson Sparkle, which is shimmer but also duochrome (it is copper or violet depending on the light), over Inkwell. I did something different on my ring fingers: first I stamped a design (A15 plate by Shirley from Dashica Beauty) and then I applied a thin coat of Crimson Sparkle.
Transforming Inkwell was really fun for me, hope you enjoy the final result!

ABC Challenge: J for Illamasqua Jo'mina

Passato un buon Halloween? Io ho evitato di uscire a fare la muffa (considerato il diluvio universale in combo col ventaccio) e mi sono data alla sistemazione del blog: ho modificato alcune etichette, ho incorporato le schede sotto il titolo... Tutte microcose non di particolare impatto ma che dovrebbero rendere il blog più fruibile e meno caotico.
Torniamo alla nostra sfida???? Oh yes. Oggi è il turno della J, J come Jo'mina di Illamasqua, collezione Body Electrics del 2010.
Sapete che io amo molto questa marca (l'ultimo ordine che ho fatto un paio di settimane fa e che prima o poi vi mostrerò è l'ennesima dimostrazione di questo mio ammmmore), e pare che questo amore sia ricambiato, perché finora i miei dineros si sono sempre rivelati ben investiti.
Comunque, Jo'mina è un lilla acceso, deciso e vivace dal finish creme. Trovo che il colore sia fantastico, particolarissimo, anzi direi unico. E' pastello ma è super intenso e luminoso.
La pigmentazione è davvero ottima, calibrando bene la pennellata potrete cavarvela con una sola passata e la durata è fenomenale.
L'unico neo di questo smalto è che necessità di tempi di asciugatura più elevati di quelli che io reputo ottimali, ma date le sue altre caratteristiche direi che vale davvero la pena attendere un po' di più del solito!
Ora scappo letteralmente, sono in partenza e sarò assente per qualche giorno, sul cucuzzolo della collina dove va a malapena il modem a 56k. Cercherò di smoderare i commenti quando sarò fuori ma, dovendo fare tutto da cellulare, dubito che riuscirò a rispondere.
Per questo motivo chiedo scusa alle mie compagne di challenge, non so quando e se riuscirò a commentare le vostre entries, temo che da cellulare mi partirebbe un embolo al commento #2.

Did you spent a nice Halloween night? Yesterday I stayed at home, the weather was awful (windy and it was raining cats and dogs) and I did some changes to my blog: I edited some labels, I changed the pages under the "header"... Nothing special, but I want to start a restyling and I began from the easier changements. 
Back to ABC Challenge: J for Jo'mina by Illamasqua, from Body Electrics Collection (2010).
You know that I love Illamasqua (in fact I recently placed an order, I have to show you ASAP what I bought!) and it seems that Illamasqua loves me too: I have always got a lot of satisfaction from its products.
Anyway, the polish of the day, Jo'mina, is a stunning color: a pastel but super bright and intense lilac with a creme finish. I think that this color is really unique.
Pigmentation is amazing too, only one coat if you do a quite thick layer of polish. Formula is simply perfect and longevity is really high. 
Its only defects it's that drying time is a bit longer than usual.
Well, I have to run away now, I will be out of city for three days. I won't have Internet access where I'm going to stay, so I ask your pardon if I won't reply to your comments, it would be too difficult from my smartphone.
