ELF Purple Dream

Buonasera a tutte!
Primo post su uno smalto ELF. Di questo brand possiedo "solo" quattro smalti, due della linea lanciata diverso tempo fa e due appartenenti alla seconda "generazione".
Mint e Lilac, ovvero i "capostipiti", mi hanno stupito per la loro scarsa qualità: più che smalto sembravano acqua colorata, stesura orrida e coprenza persino peggiore.
In Purple Dream, un bel viola con shimmer delicatissimo tono su tono, ho notato moltissimi miglioramenti: la formula è ok, si stende facilmente, il colore è pieno, la coprenza giusta si ottiene tranquillamente con un paio di passate e i tempi di asciugatura sono rapidi.
Il difetto di questo smalto sta nella scarsa longevità: già al giorno 2 ha iniziato a scheggiarsi. Va anche poco d'accordo col top coat della Essence Better than Gel Nails, perché nella mano su cui l'ho utilizzato lo smalto si è sollevato, creando delle crepe e scheggiandosi con rapidità. Cosa che non è accaduta sulla mano destra, su cui avevo usato il Sally Hansen Insta Dry, dove si è scheggiato tout court ma in maniera meno pesante.
Un'altra cosa che mi ha mandato fuori di melone è che il tappo, una volta chiuso, non si allinea perfettamente alla boccetta, il che manda a ramengo il mio ordine da maniaca ossessivo-compulsiva dell'Helmer. A tal proposito vi invito a leggere lo spassoso post sull'argomento de Le Esose, anche se l'imputato, in quel caso, ero uno smalto H&M.
In ogni caso apprezzo i miglioramenti nella formulazione fatti da ELF, e spero che un'eventuale terza generazione possa portarci in dono anche una buona longevità.

First post about an ELF polish! I have four shades by ELF, two of them (Lilac and Mint) belong to the "old generation" and two (Purple Dream and Metal Madness) are from the newer collection.
I really don't like Lilac and Mint: their formula is awful, application is horrible and they have a terrible pigmentation.
Luckily, Purple Dream, a very nice purple with a subtle shimmer, has a much better formula: application is good and it needs two coats to reach a good coverage. Drying time is really fast. 
Unfortunately it doesn't have a high longevity: after a couple of days I noticed chipping. Moreover, it seems that it doesn't like the TC I used on my left hand (Essence Better than Gel Nails) because the polish lifted on the side of my nails. This has caused some cracks and chipping on the polish surface. This hasn't happened on my right hand (I used Sally Hansen Insta Dry) but it chipped even then.
Another thing that really drives me crazy is its cap. Once you have closed it, it doesn't line up with the rest of the bottle (see pic above). This is annoying because it ruins the order in my Helmer (I know, I'm obsessive!). If you speak Italian, I suggest you this super funny post written by Le Esose about this kind of cap (but, in that case, the annoying polish was by H&M).

Essence Blue Addicted

Alzi la mano chi di voi non si è mai slogata la mascella davanti alle foto degli smalti di Deborah Lippmann, con quei glitteroni scenografici che creano colorazioni particolarissime.
Lo slogamento della mascella è inevitabile anche davanti al prezzo degli stessi; inoltre, fino a pochi mesi fa, non erano facilmente reperibili in Europa. Ora, grazie a Beauty Bay, possiamo acquistarli, ma i prezzi rimangono quel che sono...
Per fortuna Essence ci è venuta incontro proponendo Blue Addicted, un dupe dell'Across the Universe, tra le tonalità più apprezzate di sempre della Lippmann.
Blue Addicted si presenta con una base blu notte jelly e piuttosto sheer, arricchita da glitter azzurri e macroglitter esagonali azzurri e verdi. Per ottenere la coprenza delle foto ho dovuto fare tre passate.
La formula è un po' densa e l'asciugatura non è proprio rapida; inoltre, la rimozione è davvero impegnativa e consiglio il solito metodo della stagnola.
Insomma, è certamente uno smalto non facile da gestire ma anche di altissimo impatto, ricevo tantissimi complimenti ogni volta che lo indosso, la gente addirittura mi ferma per strada per chiedermi di che marca è!!!

I think that everyone loves Deborah Lippmann polishes; they are really gorgeous, particular shades, and they often have those wonderful glitter combo...
But they are very expensive too, expecially for European ladies who also have difficulties in buying them - luckily, since last February, they can be easily found at Beauty Bay!
But Essence has created a dupe of one of the most famous Lippmann's polish, Across the Universe.
Essence Blue Addicted has a deep blue (and sheer) base with a jelly finish, which is enriched with light blue glitters and green and light blue hex macroglitters.
It took three coats to obtain the opacity of the photos, formula is a bit (too) thick and drying time is quite slow. Moreover Blue Addicted is really difficult to remove (you will need the foil method).
In conclusion, this is a polish which is hard to manage, but it is also soooo scenographic and I always get a lot of compliments when I wear it.

My favourite polish (part II): Orly Royal Navy

Buonasera a tutte,
come state? Io sono stanca, stufa, smaronata come sempre mi accade quando piove per moltissimi giorni di fila (brutto essere meteoropatici). Per contrastare il malumore, quale miglior modo se non mostrarvi uno smalto che spacca davvero il fisico, aka l'Orly Royal Navy?!
Come da titolo, è il mio smalto preferito assieme allo Zoya Ivanka. Mi manca di trovare il viola dei miei sogni e poi la triade è completa!!!
Che dire? Il Royal Navy è il blu definitivo. Ha un'incredibile luminosità, merito del finish tendente al jelly della base e del finissimo shimmer turchese.
Si stende meravigliosamente (consiglio mani sottili perché non è affatto denso), due passate e la coprenza perfetta è servita. Durata ottima e tempi di asciugatura rapidissimi.
Insomma, l'unico motivo per cui non è stato amore alla prima passata è che lo avevo già visto osannare su vari blog (Scrangie e Nihrida su tutti) e quando l'ho comprato ero già bella cotta a puntino.

how are you? In this moment I am really sick and tired of this bad weather... It's been raining since last thursday and this is not good when you're meteoropatic like me!
I think that the best way to contrast these negative feelings is writing a post about a stunning polish like Orly Royal Navy.
As I wrote in the title, this is my favourite polish ever together with Zoya Ivanka. I still have to find the perfect purple and then I will have a complete triad!
Orly Royal Navy is a gorgeous royal blue which is really bright thanks to the combo jelly base plus turquoise microshimmer. It needs two coats to obtain the perfect opacity (I suggest to do very thin coats because formula is a bit runny) and dries super fast. The longevity is great.
Since I saw, for the first time, its swatches on blogs like Scrangie or Nihrida I have been lemming for it, and finally bought it during the Cosmoprof. 
What I have to say? I'm deeply in love with it. I think we'll be together for ever!

Innanzitutto, buona Pasqua a tutte!
Tra una lasagna e un fritto misto ho trovato il tempo di fare una nail art molto, come dire... Discreta!
Ma vabbé, sono in vacanza, potrò pure esagerare! E poi mi sembrava un modo carino per farvi i miei auguri e ringraziarvi per seguirmi e leggermi sempre.

In these days I've really been busy in eating a lot of dietetic food like lasagna and fritto misto, but I have found the time to do a nail art!
It's a bit crazy, I know, but hey! I'm on vacation, and I think it's a nice way to wish you a happy Easter and to thank you for reading and commenting my posts.

Temo che una spiegazione di come ho realizzato il tutto sia abbastanza superflua, sono tutti disegni piuttosto semplici ed intuitivi, serve solo un po' di pazienza nell'attendere che il tutto si asciughi per passare allo step successivo (ad esempio, dopo aver disegnato la struttura delle uova ho aspettato una decina di minuti prima di disegnare i contorni e i ghirigori col nero).
Sono particolarmente entusiasta della polvere glitter, regalo di mia sorella, che è davvero impalpabile e a dir poco perfetta per la nail art una volta mescolata al top coat.
Spero vi sia piaciuta, vi rinnovo i miei auguri e, dato che sono curiosa come una gazza, vorrei sapere cosa vi siete pappate oggi!

I am afraid that it would be completely useless to explain the various steps. This nail art is really simple and intuitive to realize. 
You only need a little (ok, a lot of!) patience between each step!
I am really enthusiastic about the glitter powder (my sister gave it to me yesterday!), it's really impalpable and perfect for nail art once you mix it with a drop of top coat.
Well, hope you like this nail art, my best wishes once again and, since I'm very curious, I also ask you: what have you eaten today?!?!?!

Basic Beauty #30 Tweety

Buongiorno a tutte!
No, non sono caduta in un tombino, semplicemente le mie ferie sono iniziate giovedì pomeriggio e ho approfittato per staccare un po' da tutto e da tutti.
Ma di certo non mi sono dimenticata di swatchare, per cui ecco a voi un altro smalto italiano, il #30 Tweety della linea Bon Ton di Basic Beauty.
Con un nome così, non poteva che trattarsi di un giallo acceso, con una puntina di verde acido. E' un creme non particolarmente coprente, infatti sono state necessarie tre passate per ottenere la coprenza della foto. Per fortuna formula ed applicazione sono ottime (ma non fate come me, che infilo una passata dietro l'altra senza attendere che si asciughi il tutto, o diventerà complicato lavorare il tutto senza striature od accumuli strani).
Anche i tempi di asciugatura, con mio sommo sollievo, sono ragionevolissimi (persino piuttosto rapidi se applicate un TC fast drying). Durata notevole.
Mi è piaciuto davvero tanto, trovo che sia un colore particolarmente primaverile (e pasquale).

Hi ladies!
Sorry for my absence, I disappeared for a couple of days because I really needed a break from everything and everyone... Luckily my vacation has started on thursday's afternoon, so I had the chance to relax a bit.
But I haven't take a break from swatching, so here I have for you another italian polish, Basic Beauty #30 Tweety from Bon Ton Collection.
As the name suggests, it's a bright yellow with a touch of acid green and a creme finish.
It takes three coats to obtain a good opacity. Formula and application are great, but it's better to wait 5 or 6 minutes between each coat or application will be a bit streaky. 
Drying time is quite fast and longevity's great. 
I really like this shade, it's perfect for Spring and... Easter holidays too!

Deborah Milano Prêt à Porter #57 Carpe Diem

Buonasera a tutte!
Ed oggi tocca, nuovamente, finalmente, ad un altro smalto italiano: il Carpe Diem, che fa parte della collezione Prêt à Porter di Deborah Milano, caratterizzata da tanti colori e finish sfiziosi e da un formato mini, ideale per provare ed osare.
Il Carpe Diem è un multichrome: anche in questo caso vale quanto detto per il Color Club Metamorphosis, ovvero non siamo di fronte a cambiamenti di colore eclatanti, ma sono comunque piuttosto evidenti. Si spazia dal blu notte al viola scuro per arrivare al verdone.
Come ho già detto, vado poco d'accordo coi pennelli larghi e piatti come quelli di Deborah Milano o OPI (che invece sono adorati dalla maggior parte delle utenti), comunque l'applicazione non è malvagia, grazie anche ad una formula azzeccata.
Due passate ed avrete l'opacità perfetta, i tempi di asciugatura sono rapidi e la durata decisamente buona.
Decisamente promosso e consigliato!

Today I have another Italian polish for you. Carpe Diem belongs to a collection by Deborah Milano called Prêt à Porter. It includes a lot of shades and finishes and has a mini size, which is great if you want to test particular colors.
Carpe Diem is a multichrome even it doesn't have dramatic change of colors. Anyway it changes from dark purple to dark green till midnight blue.
The brush is quite flat and large, and as you probably know I don't like this kind of brush. But application is not difficult at all, thanks to the nice formula of this polish.
It needs two coats to obtain the perfect opacity and it dries fast. Moreover it has a good longevity.
I'm really happy about this polish. Have you ever seen any other Prêt à Porter polish? In general, do you like mini size products? If you want, tell me in the comments!

Orly Fowl Play

Quando, lo scorso anno, uscì la collezione Birds of a Feather, gli occhi di tutte erano puntati sul Fowl Play, da subito individuato come la star del sestetto. Il successo di questo smalto fu così eclatante che molte bloggers internazionali lamentarono, su Twitter, che gli scalpers* erano entrati in azione offrendo il Fowl Play a cifre altissime (oltre 30$), approfittando del fatto che fosse andato momentaneamente out of stock un po' ovunque negli stores ufficiali.
Quando vidi i primi swatches rimasi sì incantata, ma con beneficio di inventario: se, indubbiamente, il Fowl Play appariva come uno smalto decisamente fuori dal comune, con quel suo viola un po' jelly come colore di base, e con quei pazzeschi flakies e microglitters multicolor, mi sembrava anche che il viola "spegnesse" un po' l'effetto finale.
Una volta acquistato ed indossato, ho capito subito dove stava la magagna: in foto perde, c'è poco da fare, e questo non dipende dalla mia fotocamera perché, come detto sopra, di swatches ne ho visti parecchi e l'impressione era sempre la stessa.
Insomma, dal vivo è persino meglio che in foto! I flakies e i glitters "escono" molto di più, creando un effetto tridimensionale.
Si può ottenere una coprenza soddisfacente con tre passate, i tempi di asciugatura sono rapidi e la durata impressionante.
Per oggi è tutto, vi auguro una buona domenica - la mia potrebbe migliorare se la banda di marmocchi che staziona da ore nel mio cortile la smettesse di urlare per quei 5 minuti di fila!!!

* gli scalpers, termine traducibile in italiano con "speculatore" o col più folcloristico "bagarino", sono quelle persone che fanno incetta di prodotti, solitamente edizione limitata, per poi offrirli su Ebay a prezzi nettamente maggiori di quelli di listino.

Orly Fowl Play is the star of Birds of a Feather collection of past year. I read on Twitter that it has been the target of Ebay scalpers, who have sold it for crazy prices (over 30$!!!) when it went out of stock on many etailers.
When I saw the first swatches I immediately fall in love with it: it has a purple base which seems almost jelly and many multicolor flakies and microglitters. But I also thought that the base color weakened a bit the final effect.
When I wore it for the first time I understood "the problem": Fowl Play is much better IRL than in pic, it's difficult to capture all its shades and also its tridimensional effect.
It takes three coats to obtain the perfect opacity but it dries fast. Moreover, its longevity is really high.
