Discontinued Day #07: Pupa SOLeLU'
Due mesi fa, in occasione del Discontinued Day #05, la Franza ci deliziò con le sue foto della trousse Flower in Red di Pupa. Diciamo che m'ha messo la pulce nell'orecchio, perché è da allora che ho una gran voglia di mostrarvi un'altra monumentale creazione del brand milanese, ovvero la trousse SOLeLU', che mi fu regalata da una coppia di amici per il mio compleanno nell'anno di grazia 2004.

Mish Mash Challenge #04: NAIL ART TECHNIQUE YOU HAVE NEVER TRIED BEFORE [Galaxy Nails]
Hi ladies!
Here I am with another nail art for our Mish Mash Challenge. The theme of the day is "A nail art technique you have never tried before" and I wanted to create a saran wrap manicure or galaxy nails. I must admit that I'm not a huge fan of saran wraps (even if I've seen some beautiful color combos for this kind of nail art) so I decided to do my first galaxy manicure!
The creation of my galaxy nails was quite fun: I saw a lot of pictures and tutorials to get inspiration, I spent a couple of hours before decide which nail art I wanted to imitate as much accurately as possible... But in the end I did what I had in my mind and I didn't copy any of the beautiful creations of the nail art gurus. Lol.
Anyway: for this nail art I used a lot of different nail polishes! The base color is piCture pOlish Cosmos (as Latins said, nomen omen) and here it is the list of the other products I used:
- Thumb (green galaxy): Orly Meet Me Under the Mistletoe, Pupa #706 and Golden Rose Holiday #70;
- Index (blue and grey galaxy): Orly Rock Solid, Orly Stone Cold, Essence Choose Me, Coral Prosilk Las Vegas #507 and Golden Rose Holiday #70;
- Middle (blue galaxy): Orly Lunar Eclipse, Essence Choose Me, Golden Rose Holiday #70;
- Ring (purple and red galaxy): Orly Rococo a Go Go, Orly Rock the World, Orly Emberstone, Golden Rose Holiday #70;
- Pinkie (purple and pink galaxy): Actuelle #464 Perolado, Actuelle #309 Perolado and Golden Rose Holiday #70.
For the dots and to create the shape of the galaxy I used Orly Dayglow.
Galaxy nails make me think of one of my partner's favourite book ever, that's The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams (and I like it a lot, too!) so I felt the need to take a pic with that book!!
I'm really happy with the final result! Of course it's not the best galaxy nails manicure ever, and I think I can improve, but I like it a lot!

Oggi, nella nostra tabella di marcia della Mish Mash Challenge, è il turno di una "nail art mai fatta prima". Ho subito pensato alla saran wrap o alla galaxy. Ma ammetto di non amare affatto la saran wrap, sebbene abbia visto accostamenti di colore splendidi in alcune realizzazioni, per cui mi sono orientata quasi immediatamente verso le galaxy nails.
Il "processo creativo" è stato piuttosto spassoso: ho trascorso un paio d'ore a guardare posts e tutorial on line, in quanto era mia ferma intenzione ricopiare il più fedelmente possibile la creazione di una qualche guressa. E invece è finita che ho fatto completamente di testa mia!!!
Comunque: per questa nail art ho usato davvero tantissimi smalti. Il colore di base è sempre il piCture pOlish Cosmos (nomen omen) mentre gli altri prodotti sono:
- Pollice (galassia verde): Orly Meet Me Under the Mistletoe, Pupa #706 e Golden Rose Holiday #70;
- Indice (galassia blu e grigia): Orly Rock Solid, Orly Stone Cold, Essence Choose Me, Coral Prosilk Las Vegas #507 e Golden Rose Holiday #70;
- Medio (galassia blu): Orly Lunar Eclipse, Essence Choose Me e Golden Rose Holiday #70;

Per i puntini e come colore base per creare le forme delle galassie ho usato l'Orly Dayglow.
Non so a voi, ma a me le galaxy nails fanno sempre pensare al libro di Douglas Adams "Guida Galattica per Autostoppisti", che poi è uno dei libri preferiti del mio moroso (e anche a me è piaciuto tanto), per cui ho deciso di scattare una foto anche con quel libro!!
Sono davvero contenta del risultato finale, di certo non è la più bella galaxy su piazza e penso anche di avere ancora dei margini di miglioramento, ma ne sono comunque decisamente soddisfatta.
Ovviamente spero piaccia anche a voi, grazie per aver letto questo lunghissimo post (che è pure picture heavy) e a presto!

Holothon #05: Pupa Holographic Denim Blue #34 [and happy birthday to my blog!]
Oggi il mio blog compie 2 anni! Non ci posso credere... Come crescono in fretta i figli!
E quale modo migliore di festeggiare se non con la puntata #05 della Holothon?!
Dopo avervi portate in Brasile e negli Stati Uniti, stavolta sfoggio un italico smalto, il Pupa #34 Holographic Denim Blue. Che poi è anche l'ultimo dei Pupa holo che ho acquistato (qui i miei precedenti swatches: #32, #35, #38 e #39).
Holographic Denim Blue è uno splendido blu medio che, sì, in effetti ricorda un po' il colore di alcuni jeans. A livello di finish, è un holo linear soft, non c'è quella specie di "canale arcobaleno" tipico dei Layla o dei brasiliani, ma che comunque si difende molto bene ed è sicuramente molto affascinante.
Si stende perfettamente anche senza base apposita ed è coprente in UNA, e dico una, sola passata. Asciugatura rapidissima e durata un po' mediocre (non più di tre giorni senza top coat).
Mi è piaciuto davvero tanto, e spero sia apprezzato anche da voi!
Grazie per essere qui e per esserci state in questi due anni di blogging. Non sarò ipocrita e confesserò che ci son stati dei momenti in cui avrei solo voluto avere a disposizione il pulsante "Fai implodere il blog", ma alla fine la mia passione per questo piccolo angolo - e per ciò che rappresenta per me - ha sempre prevalso anche sulle piccole delusioni che questa esperienza sa talvolta comportare.
Una passione che, però, non ho alimentato tutta da sola, ma anche grazie a delle amicizie vere e proprie che ho stretto grazie a questo blog (siete troppe per nominarvi, ma VOI sapete chi siete!) e grazie alle tante deliziose ragazze che sanno tirarmi quotidianamente fuori un sorriso coi loro commenti.

You know that I firmly believe that a holo polish is the best way to celebrate, so here it is Pupa #34 Holographic Denim Blue, which is my pick for post #05 of our Holothon.
In my previous posts of this new challenge I took you in Brazil and in the United States, so I decided that it was high time to show you an Italian beauty.
Holographic Denim Blue is the last Pupa holo I bought (you can see here my swatches of the other shades: #32, #35, #38 and #39) and it's a gorgeous medium blue with a soft holo linear effect.
I think it's a quite unusual shade for a holo polish and I love it!
Just one coat in my pics (yessss ladies, one coat!), application is easy and fluid even if you don't use a rubberized or aqua base.
Drying time is super fast and longevity is not the best if you don't apply a top coat (three days or less). I love it, and I hope you can appreciate it too!

Polish wars: Kiko 401 Peacock Green VS Pupa 32 Holographic Emerald
Sin dalla prima passata del Kiko 401 Peacock Green ho avuto una sensazione di déjà vu.
Sottotitolo: mi sa che ho fatto 'na cazzata a comprarlo.
Per una volta non mi sbagliavo. Il Kiko 401 è il fratello del Pupa 32.
Ad un'attentissima osservazione, il Pupa, all'ombra, mostra una punta di verde in più del Kiko. Talmente impercettibile che la fotocamera non riesce a catturarla.
Il Kiko, poi, ha un effetto holo linear leggermente più marcato del Pupa. Anche qui, parliamo di differenze davvero minime, come potrete vedere voi stesse.
In termini di applicazione vince il Pupa, che è senz'altro più semplice da stendere. Del tutto identici, ancora, per pigmentazione e durata.
Insomma, se possedete l'uno potete benissimo skippare l'altro.
Dovendo scegliere fra i due, direi Kiko, un po' per il maggiore effetto holo (quando si parla di smalti olografici mi attacco anche alla singola particella di effetto arcobaleno!), un po' per il prezzo: 0.45€ per ml di prodotto per Kiko, 1.19€/ml per Pupa (escludendo sconti e promozioni che si trovano in giro).

When I bought and wore for the first time Kiko 401 Peacock Green, I immediately had a déjà vu.
"Ops, I think I bought a dupe for something which is already in my stash!"
I wasn't wrong. Kiko 401 is really, really similar to Pupa 32 Holographic Emerald.
If you carefully observe the two polishes in the shade, Pupa 32 is a bit greener than Kiko 401. But this difference is so slight that it is impossible to capture it with my camera.
Moreover, Kiko 401 is a bit more holo than Pupa. Again, the difference is really little.
Pupa 32 is easier to apply, but pigmentation, drying time and longevity are exactly the same.
In conclusion, if you have Kiko 401 you can skip Pupa 32 and vice versa.
If I had to pick one I'd say Kiko 401, since it has a better holo effect and it is much cheaper too! In fact Pupa polishes cost 5.95 per 5 ml, Kiko LE polishes retail for 4.90€ per 11 ml (1.19€/ml for Pupa, 0.45€/ml for Kiko).

Pupa Holographic Taupe #39

Oggi è il turno di Holographic Taupe, sempre di Pupa. Anch'esso racchiude nel nome le sue caratteristiche principali: è un taupe con inflessioni dorate e un effetto holo linear piuttosto soft.
Pigmentazione molto buona, applicazione spettacolare, durata nella media degli altri smalti di questa collezione.

Polish wars: Pupa Holographic Violet VS China Glaze IDK
Non appena ho steso il primo strato di Pupa Holographic Violet sulle unghie, il pensiero è andato al blasonatissimo e difficilmente reperibile China Glaze IDK, che riuscì ad accaparrarmi due anni or sono prima che il suo prezzo schizzasse alle stelle.
Mi sembra dunque d'obbligo una comparison, con tanto di fatidica domanda: dupe o non dupe?
E' evidente, i due non sono assolutamente identici. Nonostante il punto di viola sia sostanzialmente lo stesso, il China Glaze IDK ha un effetto holo linear assai più evidente e “ordinato” rispetto al Pupa. Come direbbe la mia amicicia di smalti Serena, l'IDK ha un effetto più “LSD”.
Tuttavia, all'ombra rende più il Pupa, che conserva il suo aspetto holo, magari con un effetto più scattered, mentre l'IDK rimane più piatto.
Il nostrano Holographic Violet vince per pigmentazione (una mano per ottenere la coprenza perfetta contro le due di IDK) e per facilità di applicazione. IDK è, però, decisamente più longevo.
Parimerito per quanto riguarda la velocità di asciugatura, rapidissima in ambo i casi.
In conclusione, ribadisco quanto sopra: IDK ha senz'altro un effetto holo più “shock”, ma se cercate un suo sostituto visto che non avete nessuna intenzione di sborsare 35€ o giù di lì su Ebay per acquistarlo - e come darvi torto! - direi che Holographic Violet può essere un'ottima alternativa.

During the application of one of the new Pupa polishes, Holographic Violet, I couldn't stop thinking about another holo polish that I have in my stash, China Glaze IDK.
I bought it two years ago before its price increased unbelievably - actually it is sold on Ebay for crazy prices.
So this is my comparison between Pupa Holographic Violet and China Glaze IDK. Are they dupe or not?
No, they're not dupe. The color of the base is basically the same, a light violet. But IDK has a more dramatic linear holo effect. My nail friend Serena would say that IDK has a more evident LSD effect!!!
In the shade I prefer Holographic Violet, because it still shows a holo effect, maybe a bit scattered. IDK is quite plain in the shade.
Holographic Violet has a better pigmentation (one coat VS two coats) and application is easier. On the contrary, IDK has a better longevity.
Drying time is super fast for both polishes.
In conclusion: even if these polishes are not dupes, I think that Holographic Violet is a great substitute for IDK and it is quite perfect for you if you have access to Pupa polishes and don't want to spend up to 40 bucks for a bottle of IDK.

Pupa Holographic Violet #35
Altro post brevissimo ma pieno di foto su un altro olografico della Pupa.
Stavolta è il turno di Holographic Violet, un bel viola, come dice il nome stesso, con un effetto holo linear piuttosto evidente.
Come per gli altri, l'applicazione è stata agevole e l'asciugatura rapidissima. Una passata è sufficiente ad ottenere la coprenza ottimale e la durata si attesta intorno ai 3 giorni senza top coat.

Application is super easy and pigmentation is great (one coat in my pics). Drying time is super fast and its longevity is medium (3 days before chipping without top coat).

Pupa Holographic Strawberry #38
Ed eccoci di nuovo con un holo, sempre marchiato Pupa!
L'Holographic Strawberry #38 è un rosa deciso ma con un tocco di rosso dall'effetto holo linear non particolarmente "sconvolgente", ma comunque più evidente dal vivo che in foto.
Applicazione scorrevolissima, pigmentazione molto buona ed asciugatura super rapida.
Durata, senza top coat, intorno ai tre giorni.
Per una volta sono riuscita a dire tutto in poche righe, yeah!

[Haul] My little Holo Army
Precisazione: prima che chiamate la neuro e che facciate un paio di chiamate per farmi sottoporre al T.S.O., sottolineo che non ho certo preso tutti questi smalti per me. Sono andata in missione anche per conto di alcune amiche!
Armata di lista luuuuunga lunga, e coadiuvata da una paziente commessa, ho dunque portato a casa il bottino di cui sotto.
Quasi mi è dispiaciuto lasciarli andare (ho già iniziato a distribuirli alle rispettive e legittime proprietarie), erano troppo bellini tutti in fila!!!
[ps. com'è giusto che sia, quando serve il sole per fotografare degli holo, questo non esce manco a pagarlo]
Note: before you call the psychiatric department, I must clarify that I haven't bought all these polishes for me. I have kept only five of them (#32, #34, #35, #38 and #39), the others were for some friends.
I must admit that I felt a bit sorry when I had to let them go, they were sooo nice all together in a single line!!!!
[of course, when you need sun because you should photograph holo polishes, this disappears behind a lot of clouds]
