#Dramatag: My Top 5 Splurge Worth Products
Da moltissimo tempo non faccio un tag, diciamo che è un tipo di post che non mi ispira particolarmente. Tuttavia ne esistono diversi davvero utili, oltre che gradevoli da leggere, così come questo, il cui tema è: i cinque prodotti per cui vale la pena spendere una fraccata di soldi.L'idea originale viene da Fran ed è "spuntata" durante il contest indetto da Drama&Makeup.
Fuoco alle polveri, dopo la foto di gruppo (orrenda, grazie nebbia che ci hai infestato l'intera domenica impedendomi pure di fare foto decenti) andiamo a vederli uno per uno:
I haven't published a tag post for a very long time... I have to say that tags are not my favourite kind of post, but I also think that there are several useful and pleasant to read tags, and this one if among them. The theme is: my Top 5 Splurge Worth Products.
Of course, every brand has a different price in different countries; i.e. MAC is not that expensive in US, but it is in Italy! For this reason, I'm going to include the Italian price for every item.
The original idea of this tag comes from the Italian blogger Fran, who submitted it during a contest by another Italian blogger, Drama&Makeup.
So, after the group shot (sorry for the bad quality of the pic but today the fog has decided to ruin my day, my plans and my swatches) let's see them in detail:

Mish Mash Challenge #11: BOOK [Postmortem by Patricia Cornwell]
Hi ladies!
Ready for another appointment with Mish Mash Challenge?!? The theme of the day is BOOK, and I picked one of my favourite book ever, that's Postmortem Patricia Cornwell. I am a huge fan of Kay Scarpetta, expecially the first books of the series.
In general, I love reading, expecially horror books and thrillers. My favourite writers of these genres are Stepen King and the above mentioned Patricia Cornwell. I also love the Italian Oriana Fallaci, Patrick Dennis, Ken Follett and Sidney Sheldon. I've read four or five times every volume of Harry Potter's saga, both in Italian and in English and, when I was a teenager, I read hundreds times all Christopher Pike's books.
So, back to the nail art of the day: I decided to create a bloody splatter manicure. I used a white base (Orly Dayglow) and then three different reds: Chanel Rouge Noir (the darkest red, which I used to create the "coagulated blood" effect), Essence So Glamourous (creme red) and Orly Ignite (jelly red).
I'm particularly proud of this nail art, expecially for the objects that I used to create the prop.

Scegliere a quale ispirarmi è stato facile, dal momento che Postmortem di Patricia Cornwell non è solo un gran libro, ma è anche il primo volume della mia amatissima saga di Kay Scarpetta, l'anatomo-patologa con laurea in legge che dirime anche i casi più complicati (anche se a volte rischia di lasciarci le penne).
In generale adoro i libri horror e i thriller, a parte la Cornwell adoro anche Stephen King. Tra i miei scrittori preferiti di altri generi cito l'italiana Oriana Fallaci, Patrick Dennis, Ken Follett e Sidney Sheldon. Ho letto almeno 4 o 5 volte ogni volume di Harry Potter e, da adolescente, avevo un'autentica fissazione per le opere di Christopher Pike.
Comunque, per rappresentare Postmortem ho deciso di realizzare una splatter manicure sanguinolenta, usando un bianco (Orly Dayglow) come base e tre diversi rossi: Chanel Rouge Noir (ovviamente il più scuro, usato anche per simulare l'effetto "sangue raggrumato"), Essence So Glamourous (rosso creme) e Orly Ignite (rosso jelly). Ne sono particolarmente fiera, specialmente per come sono uscite le foto con gli "oggetti di scena".

ABC Challenge: R for Chanel Rouge Noir
Buonasera a tutte e bentornate ad una nuova puntata della ABC Challenge!
Per la R mi gioco un grande classico, lo Chanel Rouge Noir.
Quando ho smesso di mangiarmi a sangue le unghie, i primi smalti che ho comprato sono stati Chanel. All'epoca (parlo del 2008) nomi come China Glaze, OPI e Orly erano a me sconosciuti, Kiko non era ancora approdata nella mia città e i grandi marchi mi sembravano l'unica (o quasi) alternativa.
Ho sorriso tirando fuori dal cassetto il Rouge Noir, perché è evidente che è stato largamente usato, mentre ora fatico a provare tutto quello che è nella mia untrieds box.
Comunque, il Rouge Noir è un classico nero-rosso con inflessioni marroni. Il finish è cremoso ed asciuga molto lucido anche senza bisogno di top coat.
La perfetta coprenza si ottiene in due mani, e l'applicazione è resa leggermente difficoltosa da una formula un tantino liquida. L'asciugatura è molto rapida.
I difetti che principalmente ha questo smalto, per lo meno ai miei occhi, sono due: in primis, stinge. Ovvero: dopo aver atteso dieci minuti vado a passare il top coat, ma il pennello dello stesso si va a tingere immediatamente di rosso non appena tocca il Rouge Noir. Ciò mi costringe a pulire il pennello ogni volta che devo ripucciarlo nella boccetta, se non voglio che il top coat diventi da trasparente a rosato.
In secondo luogo: la durata. A parte il Dragon, nessuno dei sei smalti Chanel in mio possesso ha mai superato incolume il giorno tre. Il Rouge Noir non fa eccezione in tal senso.
Tornando indietro, non lo ricomprerei di certo. Anche perché oggi come oggi siamo infestati da suoi dupe ben più economici. Come colore è sicuramente un must have, un passepartout, elegante e di classe, ma i suoi difetti fanno sì che io sia costretta a dire che non vale i 22€ che costa oggi, né i 18€ che io pagai nel 2008.
Di certo, ad anni dal suo lancio, è ancora uno degli smalti più venduti e ricercati, merito anche dell'aura mitica che circonda lui e il marchio che lo produce.

(ps: scusate per l'applicazione ad mentula canis, ma la combinazione formula liquida+febbre e tremolio mi ha fatto andare lo smalto un po' ovunque; in circostanze normali sarei andata di clean up, ma onestamente non me la son sentita, stavo troppo male e volevo solo andare a letto)

For letter R I picked an old classic nuance, Chanel Rouge Noir.
When I stopped biting my nails, the first polishes I bought were by Chanel. At that time (it was 2008) I ignored the existence of brands like China Glaze, OPI or Orly, and Kiko hadn't a store in my city yet, so I had only a few brands to consider for the purchase of a nail polish: high end brands like Chanel, Dior, YSL, or most popular brands like Pupa or Collistar.
Looking at the bottle of Rouge Noir, I smiled because it is evident that I've really used it a lot... Now I rarely use a polish as much as I used Rouge Noir, maybe because now I have more than 5 nail polishes including base and top coat!
Anyway: Rouge Noir is a classic blackened red with a hint of brown. It has a creme finish and it dries super glossy even without a top coat.
Two coats for the perfect coverage, but formula is a bit runny for my taste so application isn't the best ever. Drying time is really fast.
In my opinion, this polish has mainly two defects: first-of-all, it stains. Not on the nails, but on the brush of the top coat. I always wait ten minutes before applying a top coat on a polish (even more if I did some stamping), but when I touch the surface of my nails with the brush, this becomes immediately red. I am obliged to clean constantly the brush on a paper tissue if I don't want that my top coat turns into light pink.
Secondly: the longevity is poor. I have six Chanel polishes in my stash and only Dragon has an excellent longevity. The other five, including Rouge Noir, last less than three days before tip wears.
In conclusion: we all know that Rouge Noir is a beautiful color, a passepartout, it is so classy and elegant. There's a reason if it is still a best seller even if it was launched many years ago. It has a sort of "golden air".
But I don't think I'd buy it again: I paid 18€ for it (it actually retails for 22€) and I don't think it's worth the price. Actually there are so many dupes of Rouge Noir; well, maybe they're not "the Original Nuance", maybe they're not by Chanel, but they are identical and much cheaper.

(ps: I'm sorry for the bad application of this polish. As I wrote before, its formula is runny plus I was shaken by shivers. I rarely apply badly a nail polish, but when it happens I always do a clean up. I hadn't the strenght to do that in this case, I had flu and I only wanted to go to bed!)

Ferrari manicure with Chanel Dragon
Devo confessarvi che nel mio cuore c'è una passione ancora più grande di quella per smalti & make up. Ed è quella per la rossa di Maranello!
Sin da quando ho 11 anni seguo con fanatismo tutte le gare di Formula 1, nonché tutto ciò che gravita intorno al circus mondiale dei motori per eccellenza.
Ricordo le lacrime di Alesi in occasione della sua unica vittoria in carriera, quella al Gran Premio del Canada del 1995; ricordo quel tragico weekend di Imola del 1994 in cui persero la vita Ratzenberger e Senna; ricordo ogni singolo trionfo di Michael Schumacher e quel mondiale riportato in Italia 21 anni dopo Scheckter; ricordo Glock che rallenta facendo passare Hamilton e consegnandogli la vittoria del mondiale 2008; ricordo la frustrazione di Alonso dietro Petrov mentre assiste allo sfumare della vittoria nel campionato piloti dello scorso anno...
In passato ho avuto la fortuna di essere in tribuna in occasione dei Gran Premi di Monza ed Imola, ed anche quest'anno ho risposto: "Presente!" al GP d'Italia, svoltosi lo scorso weekend, grazie alla mia amica F. che ha trovato i biglietti!
Quale occasione migliore per sfoggiare una manicure dedicata alla Ferrari?
Il rosso Ferrari è inimitabile, ma giacché lo Chanel Dragon gli si avvicina molto, ho deciso di usarlo come colore predominante. Sull'anulare, la mia dedica: sfondo giallo (Essence Sunshine 4 Ever) con stampato il cavallino rampante.
(in origine era un unicorno, il cui corno, per l'appunto, è stato eliminato direttamente dallo stampino con l'aiuto di un cotton fioc imbevuto di solvente)
So che si tratta di una manicure non perfetta, ma devo dire che è comunque d'effetto e ha riscosso parecchio successo!
Un rapido excursus delle prestazioni del Dragon: è uno degli smalti più riusciti di Chanel. Un punto di rosso incredibile, lucidissimo anche senza top coat. Si applica meravigliosamente ed è coprente quasi con un'unica passata. Si asciuga in fretta e dura a lungo.
Devo ammettere che è l'unico smalto Chanel in mio possesso che non mi ha scatenato il rimorso del compratore!

This passion began when I was 11 years old. Children usually want to see cartoons on TV. I wanted to see Formula 1!
I remember Alesi's tears when he won his first (and last) Grand Prix in Canada. I remember when Ratzenberger and Senna died during the Grand Prix of Imola in 1994. I remember every single win of Michael Schumacher and his first Driver Championship with Ferrari, 21 years after Jody Scheckter. I remember when Hamilton passed Glock and won 2008 World Title. I remember Alonso's frustration when, last year, he couldn't pass Petrov and lost the title.
Last weekend the Formula 1 Circus was in Monza, and I went there thanks to my friend F. who got the passes. So I decided to do this "Ferrari Manicure"!
Ferrari's red is inimitable, for this reason I decided to use the best red in my collection: Chanel Dragon.
On my ring finger I applied Essence Sunshine 4 Ever and also stamped the "cavallino rampante" (rampant horse). In the end I added the Italian flag (green is Essence In the Jungle, an anonymous brand for white, and again Chanel Dragon for red).
I know, this is not a perfect manicure, but I like it so much! And I have received a lot of compliments, too, so I'm really happy with it!
About Chanel Dragon: it's really a great polish! Probably the best polish ever by Chanel. It's a beautiful red shade, it's glossy even without top coat and, if you're careful, it's a one coater! Application is good, it dries fast and has a great longevity.
I usually don't like Chanel's polishes (I think they're overpriced for the quality you get), but this one is really special!

On my ring finger I applied Essence Sunshine 4 Ever and also stamped the "cavallino rampante" (rampant horse). In the end I added the Italian flag (green is Essence In the Jungle, an anonymous brand for white, and again Chanel Dragon for red).
I know, this is not a perfect manicure, but I like it so much! And I have received a lot of compliments, too, so I'm really happy with it!
About Chanel Dragon: it's really a great polish! Probably the best polish ever by Chanel. It's a beautiful red shade, it's glossy even without top coat and, if you're careful, it's a one coater! Application is good, it dries fast and has a great longevity.
I usually don't like Chanel's polishes (I think they're overpriced for the quality you get), but this one is really special!

Polish wars: Chanel Nouvelle Vague VS Essence Kings of Mints
Nota bene: per questo post devo ringraziare quella strafiga della mia amica Lau, che non solo ha fornito foto, unghie e smalti per la comparazione, ma ha anche scritto il testo che leggerete qui sotto. Io ci ho messo solo il titolo (no, non sono svenuta per l'enooorme sforzo, non preoccupatevi!). Grazie mille honey!
Partiamo dall'inizio: Chanel Nouvelle Vague è, per me, il perfetto colore per l'estate. E' un verde Tiffany, stupendo: la perfetta sfumatura di azzurro-giada, non volgare e senza effetto cadaverico.
Raramente mi piacciono i colori proposti da Chanel, ma con questo smalto è stato amore a prima vista. Il mio portafoglio pianse amaramente quel giorno, ma io avevo appena concluso la sessione estiva degli esami, quindi, ehi!, me lo meritavo! (sembra una frase da alcolista anonima, lo so).
Poiché Nouvelle Vague uscì in edizione limitata ho sempre un po' di remore a usare questo smalto, perché temo di non riuscire mai a trovarne un dupe perfetto.
Fino alla settimana scorsa.
Negli stand Essence ho trovato, isolato e solo, lo 03 - Kings of Mints: 7 ml di dupe di Chanel Nouvelle Vague a un prezzo irrisorio, 2.49€. Non potevo lasciarlo lì!
Il colore non è simile: è identico! Perfino la stesura, un po' liquida alla prima passata, perfetta con una leggera mano della seconda, è la medesima.
Lo smalto di Essence ci mette un filino in più ad asciugare: infatti sul dito medio potrete notare una leggera "crepa" dovuta al fatto che ho toccato involontariamente lo smalto prima che si asciugasse.
Super Dupe-ah!

First of all: in my opinion, Chanel Nouvelle Vague is the perfect colour for summer. It's a Tiffany green: in a few words, the perfect shade of light blue-jade. Moreover, it is not vulgar and it won't give to your hands a deadly appearance.
I rarely like the colours launched by Chanel, but with this polish, it was love at first sight. My wallet wept bitterly that day, but I had just completed the summer session of my exams, so - hey, I deserved it! (this sounds like a sentence from Alcoholics Anonymous, I know).
Since Nouvelle Vague was released in limited edition I always think twice before using it: I was afraid I could never find a perfect dupe.
Until last week.
In an isolated Essence stand I found it: from You rock! Collection, polish #03 - Kings of Mints, or rather 7 ml of dupe for Chanel Nouvelle Vague at a paltry price, 2.49€. I really couldn't leave it there!
The color is not similar: it's the same! Even application is identical: a little liquid for the first coat but perfect with a thin, second coat.
Kings of Mints takes a little bit more to dry: infact, you can notice on my middle finger a slight "crack" due to the fact that I accidentally touched the polish before it could dry.
Dupe? No: Super Dupe-ah!
